FAQ – Pre-Cut PPF Vector Templates | AutoVectors

AutoVectors sells digital pre-cut vector templates for paint protection film (PPF), vinyl wrap, interior protection and window tint. Nothing is shipped: you buy a file, download it, and cut the film yourself on your own plotter.

The catalog currently holds 2,100 published templates, and new models are added every week. They sit in four libraries — car exterior, car interior, motorcycle and window tint — and car exterior is by far the largest of the four. Each library page lists every brand and model it currently holds.

Every package contains the vehicle’s parts drawn in true 1:1 scale, ready to lay out on your roll and send to a cutter. Most packages include CDR, AI, DXF, PDF and SVG files; the exact list is shown on each product page, under “Included Files” (“Available formats” on request products).

You do not need to buy design software to use them — AutoVectors Studio is free and runs in your browser.

To make sure you select the correct pattern, always check three details before purchasing:

1. Vehicle model year and chassis code

These define the exact generation (pre-facelift, facelift, or model-year changes). Even a single year difference may change bumper shape, hood length or headlight geometry.

2. Trim and bumper configuration

Patterns are based on OEM designs. The easiest way to confirm compatibility is by comparing the bumper layout, grille sections and fog-light or sensor positions with your vehicle.

3. Headlight and taillight shape

Lighting geometry is often the quickest visual indicator. If the outline matches, the front fascia is usually the correct version.

If you are unsure, contact us before buying and we will verify the exact fitment from your vehicle details or photos. Digital files cannot be returned once delivered, so this one message is worth the minute it takes.

Ask us. The store shows what has been published — 2,100 templates right now — and our internal database is considerably larger: many patterns exist but are not uploaded yet. In most cases we can prepare and upload the template you need the same day.

Kits

Most templates are sold as one complete package: one price, one download, nothing to choose. Only a small number of models offer a coverage choice at checkout — usually Extended Kit or Full Kit, and on a few models Max Kit. Where there is no choice, the package is normally the full kit for that vehicle.

Coverage runs roughly: Extended about 40–70% of the exterior, Max about 70–90%, Full about 100%. The Standard kit (about 15–35%) is described in our kit guide but is not currently offered as a separate option.

File formats

Most packages include CDR (CorelDRAW), AI (Adobe Illustrator), DXF, PDF and SVG. A smaller number ship CDR, AI, PDF and SVG. The exact list for each template is shown on its product page, under “Included Files” (“Available formats” on request products).

Need PLT, HPGL or EPS for your plotter? You do not have to ask and wait. Open the SVG or the PDF from your download in AutoVectors Studio — free, in your browser — and export PLT, DXF, EPS or SVG at true 1:1 scale. If you would rather we prepared the file, contact us and we will send it.

Yes — AutoVectors Studio. It is free, it runs in your browser, and there is no account, no installation, no trial and no subscription. You do not need to buy CorelDRAW or Illustrator to use our templates.

What it opens

SVG, PDF, AI, EPS, DXF, PLT and HPGL — so every file in your download opens directly except the .cdr. .cdr cannot be opened by any browser; use the SVG or the PDF from the same package instead. You can also drop in a photo at real size and trace over it.

What you can do in it

• Lay the parts out on your roll and nest them automatically to save film.
• Edit outlines and nodes, and restore any part to exactly how it arrived.
• Add wrap allowance to one edge, one stretch or a whole part — 3, 5, 10 mm or your own figure.
• Round corners, add relief cuts, merge or break apart, group, mirror, scale and measure.
• Export a cut file, or send the job straight to the plotter (beta).

Where it runs

Windows, macOS and Android phones and tablets, in the browser you already have — node editing and cut lines work by finger too. A laptop or shop computer is still the better place to work.

It also works with vector templates you did not buy from us: Studio does not check where a file came from.

Your file opens on your computer and the geometry work runs there. We collect the files you open, export and save, and basic technical details about them, to help us improve Studio.

🔗 AutoVectors Studio: Free Online Software for PPF Template Layout, Nesting and Plotter Output

Start with AutoVectors Studio. It is free, it runs in your browser, and it covers what a pre-cut job actually needs: layout, nesting, edge allowance, node editing, measuring and plotter output. For most installers nothing else is required.

CorelDRAW and Adobe Illustrator are still worth having if you already own them, or if you need something Studio deliberately does not do: text, registration and print-and-cut marks, color work and general artwork. The .cdr and .ai files in your download open there directly.

Any other software that reads SVG, DXF, PDF or EPS will work as well — the files are ordinary vector data, not a locked format.

Use the autonest in AutoVectors Studio. It packs the parts by their real outline, not by bounding boxes, so a curved fender nests into the hollow of its neighbor instead of reserving a rectangle it does not fill.

You set:

• Working width — the width your plotter actually cuts. Pinch rollers eat a few centimeters, so a 152 cm roll usually cuts about 148 cm.
• Worksheet length — each worksheet is one plotter run.
• Gap between parts — 5 mm by default, held as a hard limit.
• Rotation — free (24 orientations in 15° steps), 90° steps, 180° only, or keep as is.
• Search time — 30 seconds, 2, 10 or 30 minutes. It runs on every spare CPU core, redraws the best layout it has found so far, and you can stop at any moment and keep it.

A physics settle pass can follow: the layout tips on its side, every part gets weight, and the parts fall and compact under gravity while the gaps and the film edges still hold.

For scale: on the 54-part Škoda Kodiaq demo kit bundled with Studio, a 30-second run in our own test packed the parts onto four 152 cm-wide sheets using about 13 m of film. That is one measured run on one kit, not a promise — how much you gain depends on how much slack your own layout started with.

AutoVectors Studio exports four cut formats:

• PLT / HPGL — most cutting plotters. Try this first.
• DXF (R12) — CAD and sign software.
• EPS (Illustrator 8) — Roland CutStudio.
• SVG — vector editors.

If PLT is refused, try SVG; on a Roland use EPS; DXF if none of the others work.

Sending the job straight to the cutter (beta)

Studio can also drive the plotter directly. A cutter on a COM or serial port needs nothing extra in Chrome or Edge. A USB cutter needs the small AutoVectors Bridge helper (a small Windows download that installs into your own user profile with no administrator password and no driver). Safari cannot do this at all — download the file instead.

Before the first job on any machine, Studio cuts a 100 × 100 mm test square and shows the plotter’s width next to the width your sheet needs. If the sheet is too wide it refuses to cut and offers to re-nest to the machine’s width.

This has been proven on a Graphtec CE7000 over USB in HP-GL mode; other machines receive exactly the same bytes and the test square tells you whether they read them correctly. Silhouette, Cricut and Brother cutters are not supported — they do not read HPGL. Export the file and use their own software.

💡 One note on exports: cut files are flattened to polylines at 0.01 mm chord tolerance, far below a plotter’s 0.025 mm resolution, so it is invisible on the material. A Studio SVG or DXF is a cut file, not a curve-preserving re-save of the original template.

Yes. All our templates are engineered in true 1:1 scale and prepared for professional plotter cutting workflows. Most patterns are designed with approximately ±1 mm precision based on OEM geometry. In rare cases, depending on the vehicle’s curves, surface complexity or available reference data, the tolerance may reach approximately ±2–4 mm.

Two things to do on your side:

• Set your software’s units to millimeters and do not scale the file.
• Before the first real job on a machine you have not used for pre-cut work, cut a 100 × 100 mm square and measure it. The files are exact; the remaining variable is your plotter’s own step size.

What the price reflects

Template pricing is based on reverse engineering technology, vehicle production period, model exclusivity and kit coverage. Every car template falls into one of four Pricing Tiers, and the tier always follows the regular price — promotions and discount codes never move a product between tiers.

Car template price bands

These are regular prices, before any discount:

• TIER 1 – Standard — up to $64 — everyday models: common economy and budget vehicles from older years.
  
• TIER 2 – Plus — $65–99 — popular picks: widely produced models from recent years.
  
• TIER 3 – Premium — $100–169 — premium & performance: sports and luxury models, from recent years to the latest releases.
  
• TIER 4 – Collector — from $170 — rare & exclusive: supercars, limited editions and classics. A short list of collector models sits at the very top of the range.
  

TIER 2 and TIER 3 together cover the large majority of car exterior templates. TIER 4 is a handful of cars.

What you actually pay can be lower. Car exterior templates are frequently on promotion. Where a template is reduced, its product page shows the current price next to the crossed-out regular price, and any discount code or bundle saving is applied on top of that in the cart. The product page is always the authority on what a template costs today.

Motorcycle, interior and window tint templates

These are priced on their own scales and are not part of the car tier bands:

• Motorcycle and powersports (bikes, scooters, three-wheelers, jet-skis, UTVs) — most of them $30; prices run from $20 to $130.
  
• Interior — typically $10 to $60, most of them $30.
  
• Window tint — typically $20 to $30.
  

Motorcycle and window tint templates are sold on those scales and are not normally discounted.

Kits and bundles

Where a model offers a choice of kit, a larger kit costs more because it covers more panels. On selected vehicle platforms a bundle saving is set up: buy more than one variation of that platform and the discount is applied automatically at checkout, in the order summary, before you pay.

Full Kit prices differ for two clear reasons: the technology used to engineer the model, and how hard the vehicle is to get access to.

1. Reverse engineering technology (before and after 2020)

Templates created before 2020 were produced using earlier-generation reverse engineering methods. Accurate for their time, but those workflows relied on older surface-capture technology and delivered a lower precision level than modern standards.

From 2020 onwards, AutoVectors upgraded the workflow: advanced 3D scanning equipment and modern surface-processing software, which produce highly accurate, true-scale 1:1 vector templates with improved fitment, cleaner edges and less installation error.

In practice, at regular prices: Full Kits for models engineered from 2020 onwards usually run $80 to $150 — most often $80, $100 or $130; on the models that also offer a smaller kit, the Full Kit is usually $130. Full Kits for pre-2020 models are most often $80. Where a template is on promotion, the product page shows the reduced price.

2. Model rarity, exclusivity and physical access

An older production date does not automatically mean a low price — in fact the most expensive templates in our catalog are older cars. Rare, exclusive, limited-production or collectible vehicles are placed in TIER 4 (from $170 regular price) because they are far harder to access for physical scanning and verification.

The higher price reflects the extra work required to document the vehicle correctly: limited availability of a physical car, more complex data acquisition and validation, and more engineering time to reach professional-level accuracy.

Summary

Full Kit pricing reflects the precision of the reverse engineering technology used and the practical difficulty of accessing and engineering a specific model — which is why a 2023 SUV and a 1996 supercar can sit at opposite ends of the price list for the same kit name.

For most templates the download is instant. As soon as your payment is confirmed, a download button appears on the order confirmation page and you also receive an email with a download link. The link is tied to your order, and it always delivers the latest version of the template.

One exception: a minority of templates are marked “Available on Request” on their own product page. Those files are prepared after you order rather than delivered instantly. In most cases the matching template is already in our internal database and can be prepared quickly — and the product page always tells you which of the two applies before you buy.

There is nothing physical to ship, and no shipping to pay for.

👉 How Digital Downloads Work on AutoVectors

Templates are updated whenever improvements, refinements or geometry corrections are made, and updates are free to everyone who already bought that template.

You do not buy the same kit twice: your existing download link is connected to the new version, so opening it again gives you the current files. If you cannot see an update you expect, contact us with your order number and we will restore access.

Checkout accepts credit and debit cards — Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro and UnionPay.

It also accepts Apple Pay, Google Pay, Shop Pay, PayPal, Klarna and iDEAL / Wero. USDC is listed as a payment option as well.

The exact set of options you see depends on your country and device — the full list appears at checkout, where all payments are processed securely.

Digital files are non-refundable once the download has been delivered. Under EU and UK consumer protection law, the right of withdrawal does not apply once digital content delivery has begun with your express consent. This is why we ask you to verify fitment before buying — and why we will happily check it for you first.

We do make exceptions. Contact us with your order number if:

• the files are corrupted, incomplete or defective;
• you made an accidental duplicate purchase (with proof of payment);
• the transaction was unauthorized.

Contact us and we will sort it out. Tell us your order number, which file you tried to open and which software you are using.

Two things solve most cases immediately:

• The .cdr will not open. Use the SVG or the PDF from the same package — or open it free in AutoVectors Studio, in your browser, with nothing to install.
• Your plotter software rejects the file. Open it in Studio and export a PLT — that is the format most cutters read.
