File Types Explained

File Types Explained

AutoVectors provides clean, professional vector files optimized for PPF, vinyl wrap and plotter workflows. To ensure maximum compatibility with industry-standard software, every digital template download includes four primary formats:

  • CDR – CorelDRAW
  • AI – Adobe Illustrator
  • PDF – universal vector format
  • SVG – lightweight scalable format

These formats cover 99% of installer workflow needs. If you require additional formats such as DXF, EPS, PLT or others, simply contact us — we will provide the converted files quickly and at no extra cost.

CDR – CorelDRAW (Primary Format)

CDR is the most widely used file type among PPF and vinyl installers worldwide. Most plotter software integrates directly with CorelDRAW, making it ideal for:

  • • Direct plotter cutting
  • • Editing vector paths
  • • Scaling and preparing film layouts
  • • Managing 1:1 true-scale templates

If your workshop uses CorelDRAW, CDR will be the most convenient and accurate format.

AI – Adobe Illustrator

AI is preferred by designers, wrap studios, and creative workflows. It offers excellent curve precision and compatibility:

  • • Ideal for livery design and custom graphics
  • • Perfect for template-based artwork overlays
  • • Works smoothly with Adobe Creative Cloud

Installers using Illustrator can cut directly via plugins or export to PDF/SVG for plotters.

PDF – Universal Vector Format

PDF is highly stable and readable by nearly all vector programs. It is often used for:

  • • Quick previews
  • • Fast importing into various plotter systems
  • • Maintaining curve accuracy across platforms

PDF also avoids compatibility issues between different software versions.

SVG – Lightweight, Scalable Format

SVG is perfect for:

  • • Web-based vector tools
  • • Lightweight editing
  • • Quick visualization of template shapes
  • • Importing into plotting environments that support SVG directly

SVG maintains perfect precision and is extremely efficient for fast workflows.

Additional Formats Available on Request

If your workflow requires alternative file types, we will convert and send them upon request:

  • DXF – CAD/CAM and CNC-oriented format
  • EPS – legacy vector format for older workflows
  • PLT – plotter-optimized line format

Just contact us with the required format — conversions are provided free of charge.

Which Format Should You Use?

  • Use CDR → If you cut directly from CorelDRAW
  • Use AI → If you design wraps or overlays
  • Use PDF → If you want universal compatibility
  • Use SVG → If you want lightweight, fast-loading files
  • Request DXF/PLT → If your plotter or CAD system requires it

No matter which format you choose, all templates retain true 1:1 scale and clean vector curves suitable for professional PPF and vinyl installation.
